A special tour offered once a year for the Pacific Rim Whale Festival
Canoe tour to Tla-o-qui-aht whale hunting village site
Join Tsimka Martin and paddle a real traditional dugout canoe to Echachis Island. Echachis is a whale hunting village site of the Tla-o-qui-aht people located on the outer coast. Tsimka will lead a hike across the island and share about the way of life of the Tla-o-qui-aht first people; their relationship with the ocean including the whale hunt.
Restrictions: Ages 12 and up. Please note some physical restrictions apply as this tour requires the whole group to paddle together in more exposed waters then T’ashii’s regular canoe tours to Meares Island. It also involves hiking on rugged ground and slippery rocks.
What to bring
Pack lunch, drinking water, camera and dress for the weather. There is room to bring a day pack in the canoe.
