Tashii Paddle School is a local First Nations (Tla-o-qui-aht) owned and operated business. We specialize in outdoor education including first national cultural interpretation, paddle instruction, and tours that explore a variety of areas in Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks.

We have been creating paddling opportunities for both tourists and the local community since 2012.

Owners Tsimka and Emre bring their guiding and instructing experience from canoeing (Tsimka had previously guided canoe tours with her sister Gisele Martin’s company Tla-ook), sea kayaking, and whitewater kayaking to the oldest and newest paddle sports on the west coast: Traditional Dugout Canoeing and Stand Up Paddle boarding, offering expert instruction, a truly unique paddling experience, and a source to the continued evolution of paddling on the west coast. Learn more about our paddling backgrounds by meeting our guides.

“T’ashii” is a Tla-o-qui-aht word meaning path on land or on water. At T’ashii Paddle School our vision is to create a path to learning and connection with the natural environment through paddling.

From March to October T’ashii Paddle School offers guided tours in a 25 foot hand carved dugout canoe (carved by Tsimka’s father, Joe Martin). These tours are a window into local aboriginal culture and involve a walk through the old-growth rainforest showcasing 1000 year old red cedar trees.

Year round, T’ashii Paddle School also offers daily stand up paddleboard (SUP) lessons and tours from calm ocean inlets, to open ocean touring, to paddle surfing. In addition, T’ashii Paddle Schools offers 2 day coastal stand up paddle boarding courses focused on specialized instruction and skill development.

Paddling is an amazing way to connect to the west coast, it’s what we’re passionate about and T’ashii Paddle School is our way of sharing our passion and continuing the progression of paddling on the west coast. We look forward to being out on the water with you!
